A Relational and systemic approach to understanding you as a whole.

Relationships can be one of the most rewarding parts of our lives, and the bonds that we have with others can help us feel secure and loved as we navigate the challenges we face in life. Relationships can also be very complex, and these bonds can be strained by those challenges we face. I hope to help you navigate through these obstacles to come to a happier place with themselves and their relationships. My name is Jacob O’Neal, and I am a pre-licensed mental health practitioner who works with individuals, couples, and families in Roseville. I am here to aid you through the unique goals you have, including improving communication with loved ones, developing a better understanding of yourself, or addressing the obstacles you are facing that prevent you from living the life you want in peace and happiness.

Why Work With Me

I have been working with couples, families, and individuals since 2023 as a pre-licensed provider under supervision. I have recognized the impact that a systemic and culturally-attuned approach has had not only in the therapy space, but even in my personal life as well. I feel that this has been the best way to understand the people and the issues we all face, as our backgrounds and systems we exist in shape so much of how we experience the world.

I have specialized in working with couples and other structures for intimate relationships as they navigate a variety of issues, and I primarily view our work together through an attachment-focused lens. I have received formal training for Emotion-Focused Therapy to aid clients in understanding and working with, rather than against, the attachment-based forces that affect all of our lives. Our work will focus on identifying the ruptures and wounds that affect how you show up in and experience relationships, the core values and hopes you shape your relationship with, and use practical and evidence-based interventions that help to heal and move toward stronger bonds.

My Therapy Approach

If someone is looking to become more connected with their family, hoping to come to a more understanding and intimate place in their relationships, or finding it difficult to reach the point of trust and commitment they once had with others, I am here to meet with you and help you reach your goals. Through Emotionally Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, I work together with clients to help them find that place in their life with love and connection that is congruent with their values. At the end of our time together, I hope you find peace and joy in your journey through connection with others as well as yourself.

Going to therapy is a significant step to healing that requires clients to be open, vulnerable, and courageous. Understanding this, I aid you to navigate these feelings gently through compassion, care, and curiosity for your unique experiences. I take the time to get to know each client and the challenges they face so they can work together to overcome those challenges. We can do this at a pace we set together, and I will always be sure to check in to see how we can best achieve your goals throughout our time working together.

Addressing Common Concerns

I have experience aiding clients in navigating a variety of issues, including depression, poor self-esteem, anxiety, and traumatic experiences. I have worked with families to provide systemic interventions to address family conflicts and dysfunctional patterns as well. I also have experience and a passion for helping couples address issues within their relationship, including communication difficulties, infidelity, sexual issues, and discernment counseling.

A Bit About Me

I come from a mixed-ethnicity Latine family, and the family that fostered my mother and sister are a significant part of my life. The amazing experiences afforded to me by the multiple generations and perspectives within my family have shown me that it is absolutely essential to approach people and their beliefs with curiosity and care. Doing so requires an in-depth look at myself and working to be aware of how others experience me. Knowing this, I looks forward to the journey that is examining my privilege in the world, as well as the differences that affect how I view the world through my own unique perspective.

Let’s Work Together

If you are looking to start the therapy process, I am happy to get in touch and see what works best for you. Whether you are seeking individual, couples, or family counseling, we can work together toward achieving your goals in a way that feels safe and effective for you.
