Creating a Space Where You and Your Family Can Feel Understood

When your child is struggling—or when you’re feeling overwhelmed as a parent—it’s easy to wonder if things will ever feel calm again. You want support, but more than that, you want someone who really gets it. Someone who sees what’s going on beneath the behaviors and listens without judgment.

I’m Amber Hames, a pre-licensed therapist in Blaine, MN, offering individual and family therapy in person and virtually. I work with children, teens, and adults navigating everything from anxiety and ADHD to school issues, parenting stress, and family conflict. My goal is to make therapy feel approachable, collaborative, and tailored to you—because no two people or families are exactly the same.

Why Work With Me

I’ve always been someone who listens deeply and wants to help. That natural sense of empathy led me to become a therapist—and it’s what guides my work with children, teens, families, and adults today.

I support clients navigating ADHD, anxiety, school and family stress, parenting challenges, and life transitions like divorce or trauma. My role isn’t to “fix” anything, but to create a space where clients feel heard, validated, and supported. Whether we’re playing to process big emotions or talking through long-standing patterns, I bring calm, curiosity, and practical tools to help each person move forward.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach blends structure with flexibility, always tailored to each person or family I work with. I use a mix of evidence-based therapies to help clients build insight, confidence, and practical tools for daily life.

With children, I often use:

  • Play therapy, storytelling, and child-led activities

  • Tools to build trust, process emotions, and develop coping skills

  • Techniques to support communication, emotional regulation, and self-esteem

With teens and adults, I draw from:

  • CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and person-centered approaches

  • Strategies to shift unhelpful thought patterns, reduce stress, and promote self-awareness

  • A supportive space to feel seen, validated, and empowered to grow

No matter your age, therapy with me is about feeling heard—and learning how to thrive, not just cope.

How I Support Families and Children

When a child is struggling, it impacts the whole family. I work closely with both children and caregivers to better understand what’s behind the behaviors—and how to build more connection, trust, and emotional regulation at home.

  • I support kids navigating ADHD, anxiety, school stress, peer and sibling conflicts, and big transitions like divorce or trauma.

  • For parents, I offer psychoeducation on development, behavior, and emotional needs, so you can feel more confident in supporting your child.

  • We explore parenting styles, communication tools, and regulation techniques that work for your unique family.

  • My goal is always to help families feel more connected, less overwhelmed, and better equipped to grow together.

A Bit About Me

Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with family, getting outdoors, and trying new hobbies. I love baking, thrift shopping, bowling, and unwinding with a good TV show. These simple joys help me stay grounded—and I bring that same balance and presence into my work with clients.

Let’s Work Together

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. You don’t need to have it all figured out.

I’ll meet you where you are, whether you’re reaching out for yourself or your child. In our early sessions, we’ll focus on building trust, setting goals, and creating a space that feels calm and supportive. From there, we move at your pace—together.
