At Omni Mental Health, we provide state-certified DBT services in St. Paul, Blaine, and Rochester to help individuals build emotional resilience, develop healthier relationships, and regain a sense of stability in their lives.

What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)?

DBT is an evidence-based therapy that helps people manage intense emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviors, and improve interpersonal relationships. Originally developed for borderline personality disorder (BPD), DBT is now widely used to treat:

  • Depression & Anxiety

  • Self-harm tendencies & suicidal thoughts

  • Impulsive behaviors & emotional dysregulation

  • Unstable relationships & chronic feelings of emptiness

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

We offer a state-certified DBT program, ensuring that you receive the highest level of care in St. Paul, Blaine, and Rochester. Our DBT therapists provide a structured yet flexible approach, helping you develop the skills to control your emotions and your life.

Who is DBT For?

DBT is designed for individuals who experience intense emotional ups and downs, difficulty managing distress, and challenges in their relationships. If you find yourself stuck in patterns of impulsivity, self-destructive behaviors, or emotional pain, DBT may be the right approach for you.

DBT is especially helpful for those who:

  • Struggle with intense emotions that feel overwhelming or uncontrollable

  • Experience frequent emotional crises that disrupt daily life

  • Engage in impulsive behaviors such as self-harm, reckless spending, or substance use

  • Have difficulty maintaining stable relationships due to emotional outbursts or fear of abandonment

  • Experience chronic feelings of emptiness or low self-worth

  • Struggle with distress tolerance and often use unhealthy coping mechanisms to avoid pain

  • Feel stuck in negative thought patterns and want to develop healthier ways to cope

If any of these challenges resonate with you, DBT can help you develop the skills needed to manage emotions, improve relationships, regain stability, and develop healthier, more effective ways of managing life’s challenges.

  • Not at all. We understand that committing to a long-term therapy program can feel overwhelming. You’ll start with an intake and assessment session to see if DBT is a good fit. From there, we’ll walk you through what to expect and give you space to decide if you’d like to move forward with the full program.

  • That’s a common experience, and DBT might offer a different path forward. Its practical, skills-focused approach can be particularly effective for people who haven’t found relief in traditional therapy. We meet you where you are and help you build concrete tools to manage the struggles you face.

  • We’re happy to collaborate with outside providers to ensure your care is coordinated and supportive of your overall wellness. It is generally recommended that clients pause other therapy services while participating in the DBT program. This allows for full engagement with DBT, ensuring comprehensive treatment and maximizing its effectiveness.

  • Graduating from DBT doesn’t mean your journey ends—it means you’ve built a toolkit to better handle life’s ups and downs. Some clients continue with less frequent therapy or join aftercare groups or booster sessions to maintain their progress. We’ll work with you to create a transition plan that fits your ongoing needs.
