Helping You Build Confidence, Connection, and Clarity
Life can be confusing, especially when emotions run high and communication breaks down. Whether you're facing anxiety, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck, it can be hard to know where to turn or what to do next.
I’m Michael Kristensen, a practicum intern at Omni Mental Health in Blaine, MN, offering both in-person and virtual counseling. I offer a calm, supportive space where we can explore what’s going on, build new insight, and work toward meaningful change.
Why Work With Me
As someone beginning their clinical journey, I bring a fresh perspective, deep curiosity, and genuine care to the work I do with clients. I currently work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families, supporting people through challenges like anxiety, depression, and communication struggles.
What drew me to this work was seeing how powerful it can be to help others find more meaning, connection, and joy in their lives. Mental health is a journey, and I believe that small, intentional steps can lead to big change. My role is to create space for that change to happen and to support you in building skills, insight, and confidence along the way.
Because I’m still in training, I’m constantly reflecting on how I can grow and improve. That means I come into each session fully present, open-minded, and focused on what will be most helpful for you.
My Approach to Therapy
I use a flexible, collaborative approach that draws from several evidence-based methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Narrative Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. At the core of my work is a person-centered mindset—one that values your lived experience and sees you as the expert in your own life.
In our sessions, you can expect a space that’s non-judgmental, supportive, and built on trust. I bring curiosity and empathy into every conversation, meeting you where you are and helping you make sense of what you’re feeling. Whether it's anxious thoughts, difficult relationships, or finding clarity around life decisions, I aim to create a process that feels natural and useful.
I adapt my approach based on what works best for you. Each person brings their own story, and my role is to support your progress in a way that feels meaningful and aligned with your goals.
Addressing Common Concerns
Starting therapy can feel uncertain, especially if you’re working with someone who’s still in training. I understand that, and I want to be clear: while I’m a practicum intern, I’m supported by a team of fully licensed clinicians and receive regular supervision to ensure high-quality care.
People often wonder what the first session will be like. It’s mostly a chance to get to know each other, talk through what’s been bringing you in, and begin to understand what you’re hoping to shift or explore. There’s no pressure to have the “right words”—we’ll take things at your pace.
Everything we talk about in session is confidential, with only a few safety-related exceptions I’ll explain upfront. I aim to provide a supportive environment where you can reflect openly, gain clarity, and take steps toward meaningful change.
A Bit About Me
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy staying active and creative. You’ll often find me rock climbing, skateboarding, or unicycling—yes, really. I also love spending time with friends and unwinding with video games.
These hobbies help keep me grounded and remind me how important it is to find joy and balance in everyday life. I bring that same energy into my work with clients, genuine, approachable, and always human.
Let’s Work Together
If you're looking for a supportive space to sort through life’s challenges and strengthen your mental health, I’d be honored to connect with you. Whether you’re new to therapy or returning after time away, I offer a grounded, collaborative approach focused on what matters most to you.
I currently offer in-person and virtual counseling through Omni Mental Health’s Blaine location. If you’re interested in starting therapy, I’d be glad to answer your questions and help you decide if working together feels like a good fit.
